January 2022 RVT Utilization Task Force Update
Stephanie Gilliam, RVTg, MS, CCRP, VTS (SAIM-Neuro) and Jessica Leary, RVT were proud to represent Missouri RVTs at this weekend's RVT Utilization Task Force meeting during 130th annual MVMA Convention in Columbia, MO. MOVTA committee members met with MVMA and MVMB leadership to discuss technician utilization, retention, and proposed changes to further define RVT's scope of practice. This meeting went very well and showed a lot of promise, and MOVTA will be working with MVMA on creating an educational toolbox to help better educate the public and MVMA members about legal scope of practice for RVTs and unregistered assistants.
Stephanie and Jessica also attended MVMA's Vet Tech & Practice Staff Committee Meeting, discussing points brought up at the Task Force meeting and are working on reviewing the current tasks on Missouri's "levels of supervision" chart to better define a niche for RVTs. A technician-focused track for next year's MVMA convention was also favorably discussed.
In addition, MOVTA hosted a vet tech/practice staff reception at MVMA sponsored by Hill's, where attendees played vet tech history trivia and enjoyed snacks and drinks.
We are excited for what 2022 has to bring and are proud to represent and serve Missouri technicians.
