Duties include:

  • Caring for dogs, cats, and exotic animals including small mammals, reptiles, and birds
  • Assisting veterinarians during examinations
  • Administering vaccinations, medications, and treatments
  • Catheter placement, both urinary and venous
  • Drawing blood
  • Monitoring anesthesia, as well as pre- and post-surgical care

  • Practicing proper animal restraint techniques
  • Maintaining computerized and paper medical records
  • Cleaning and maintaining the clinic and various medical equipment

Hours are between 7:15am – 7:00pm Monday – Friday, 7:15am – 5:00pm Saturday, and some Sundays and holidays.

Salary is negotiable based on experience.

Summary:
The receptionist is the client’s first contact when calling the practice and is the face of the practice when clients come in the hospital. The receptionist answers telephones and client questions, greets clients in the building, prepares patient files, receives and relays client correspondence, updates client financial records, sells retail products and educates clients about the services and preventative the hospital provides. A receptionist diffuses client conflict and fosters close professional relationships with clients.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

Veterinary Knowledge/Client Education:

  • Can answer client’s inquiries about basic animal care questions and routine procedures.
  • Can educate clients on over-the-counter products such as shampoos and nutraceuticals; has full knowledge of heartworm and external parasite preventives to promote client education and sales.

Admitting/Discharging Patients/Cash Handling:

  • Can admit patients and handle medical records entries accurately and confidentially.
  • Can prepare vaccine certificates and euthanasia paperwork for mortuary services.
  • Can prepare client invoices for services performed.
  • Can accurately handle payment transactions and perform end of day reconciliation
  • Can accurately give cost estimates for routine appointments

Schedule Management:

  • Can work to maintain an effective veterinarian appointment schedule, screening emergencies and prioritizing cases that need to be seen.

Computer Knowledge/Telephone Skills:

  • Receives and relays telephone, fax, and email messages accurately and promptly.
  • Answers telephones and handle calls quickly, efficiently, and in a professional and friendly manner using a multi-line system.
  • Can Enter and update client and patient information into Avimark Software
  • Has good computer skills and shows accuracy in inputting details.
  • Proficient with Office 365 programs

Personal Conduct/Attitude/Teamwork:

  • Can maintain positive, cooperative relationships with other employees.
  • Can display tact and respect with team members even when busy and hectic.
  • Feel and express a genuine liking for animals and their owners and for working in an animal care field.

DIVISION OF HUMANE SERVICES PET ADOPTION CENTER

Starting Salary: $13.00 per hour

This is a part-time position that may vary in hours. Candidate should be available to work 3 days a week for approximately 20 hours per week. Typical days and working hours would fall between 7:00 am – 5:00 pm on
Saturday, Sunday, and Monday.

JOB DESCRIPTION: The purpose of this position is to coordinates feral cats getting altered in a timely fashion and run Operation Sterile Feral on Sundays. In addition, this position will administer medications on Sundays and facilitate transportation of feral cats and find new places for these cats to live out their lives. This position also examines and evaluate the health of the shelter animals; consults with county's contracted veterinarian; and perform necessary treatments, procedures and administering of medications as allowed by the State. The work is performed under the direction of the Director – Humane Services Division.

  • Works as a team member to assist Director and co-supervisors to ensure smooth day to day operations.
  • Works as a team member with a veterinarian, veterinary technician and other shelter personnel to care for animals.
  • Examines all owner-surrendered, confiscated and stray animals entering the shelter.
  • Conducts pre-adoption health examinations and evaluates for gender, breed, age, temperament, medical conditions including but not limited to canine and feline illnesses, dermatological conditions and dental conditions.
  • Monitors health condition of all animals in the shelter.
  • Performs clinical analysis such as fecals, diagnostic testing and blood work.
  • Assists veterinarian with surgeries including spaying/neutering.
  • Assists with adoption and euthanasia recommendations for animals.
  • Cleans and sterilizes surgery room and equipment.
  • Educates the public about health conditions of animals.
  • Assist other shelter personnel with adoptions, special events and educational programs.
  • Inoculates animals and administers medications for the treatment and prevention of animal illnesses.
  • Researches information and establishes practices for sheltering protocols, shelter medicine and disease control.

  • Assists the foster coordinator with medical treatment of all foster animals.
  • Provides support to the shelter staff as assigned.
  • Checks expiration dates on medical inventory, evaluates medicines and medical products as well as place orders on supplies as necessary.
  • Routinely performs humane euthanasia on animals.
  • Enters information into computer database.
  • Educates visitors and coworkers about the health and wellbeing of animals in the shelter.
  • Works safely in all aspects, and handles all animals, domestic, exotic and wildlife, in a safe and humane manner.
  • Assist in cleaning cat, dog and other areas in the kennels.
  • Assists with the bathing, flea dips and bottle feeding of animals.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.

REQUIREMENTS:

  • Associate degree in an animal health technology program and registration as a veterinary technician by the state of Missouri required.
  • Requires two years of successful experience in a veterinary clinic, animal shelter or research setting which involved assisting a veterinarian with the treatment of dogs and cats.
  • Other combinations of education and experience that provides equivalent knowledge, skills and ability will be considered.
  • Must demonstrate understanding of animal diseases and modes of transmission.
  • Must have an ability to identify and evaluate animal breeds, characteristics, behavior and temperament.
  • Must be or become certified in humane euthanasia within six months.
  • Must have computer skills, Microsoft Word and Excel preferred.
  • Must be able to work a flexible schedule as needed including some holidays and weekends.
